PRAYER ALERT: New Year’s Day Tragedy in New Orleans

10 Killed, at Least 35 Hospitalized

Early Wednesday, amidst busy New Year’s celebrations in New Orleans, a man intentionally drove a white pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick of the New Orleans Police Department stated that the man drove around barricades in a “very intentional behavior.”

Officials report that 10 people have died, and at least 35 were injured, including two police officers who were hurt in a shootout with the driver. After crashing the truck, the suspect opened fire on local law enforcement and was killed. The FBI arrived quickly and assumed lead on the investigation.

This morning, an individual drove a car into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing a number of people and injuring dozens of others. The subject then engaged with local law enforcement and is now deceased. The FBI is the lead investigative agency, and we are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism.

Officials have not released any information on the driver, nor is a motive known at this time. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry posted on his X account: “A horrific act of violence took place on Bourbon Street earlier this morning. Please join Sharon and me in praying for all the victims and first responders on the scene. I urge everyone near the area to avoid it.”

President Joe Biden was briefed about the attack, and his administration is staying in touch with Mayor LaToya Cantrell to offer support.
